Even though there is no such major as Digital Music Production, NUS does have many quality courses available at the moment for any students who are interested in the area.

Essential Courses:

MUA1113 Desktop Music Production I

Offered by the conservatory of music, you will learn the basics of sound design and synthesis, sampling, audio effects using Propellerhead Reason. This course is available for all NUS students.

MUA1114 Desktop Music Production II

Offered by the conservatory of music, you will learn remixing, film scoring,  mixing and mastering skills using Pro Tools, it is the industry standard in recording studios. This course is available for all NUS students.

MUA2105 Introduction to Computer Music I

Offered by the conservatory of music, you will learn Csound, Computer Music Fundamentals, Sampling, Synthesis and Signal Processing techniques, and using Cubase for audio mixing and mastering. Unfortunately, this module is only offered to music school students.

MUA2106 Introduction of Computer Music II

Offered by the conservatory of music, you will learn computer based composition, sound design, and MAX/MSP programming for electronic music live performance and interaction. Unfortunately, this module is only offered to music school students.

Elective Courses:

EE3101 Digital Signal Processing

Offered by the faculty of engineering, you will actually design filters and other processors for incoming audio streams. Fun module to take for engineering students.

MUA3274 Sonic Enviroments

Offered by the conservatory of music, you will learn acoustic design, soundscapes, electroacoustics in music. This course is available for all NUS students.

MUT4202 Applied Tuning System

This course serves as an introduction to the theory and practice of intonational systems. We will cover the scientific and mathematical aspects of intonation, real-world implementations, relationships between tuning systems and timbre, historical notions of ‘consonance’ and ‘dissonance’ in relation to intonation, and survey contemporary explorations of intonational systems. This course is only offered to music students

CS4347 Sound and Music Computing

Offered by the school of computing, you will learn audio and music analysis and synthesis, digital signal processing, digital audio manipulation and interaction. This course is only offered to SOC students and you need programming background to take it.

CS5249 Audio in Multimedia System

Offered by the school of computing,  this module covers discretization, sampling, audio formats, audio synthesis, spatial audio, feature extraction, speech recognition, audio segmentation and summarization, source separation, and audio compression.

General Education Modules:

PC1327/GEK1519 Science of Music

Offered by the department of physics, this module provides a view of music from physics perspective.

GEK1054 Music in the Global Context

The only GE module offered by the conservatory of music. I recommend this course because many electronic musicians overlooked the role of ethnic percussions play in electronic music. This module will give you hands on experiences in African music, South Indian music, Javanese and Balinese Gamelan. Really fun module to take.
